Red Sox interested in reliever Wheeler  —  The Red Sox are discussing a possible deal with righthanded reliever Dan Wheeler, a Rhode Island native who has pitched effectively for Tampa Bay the last four seasons.  —  Wheeler, 33, has a 3.84 ERA in parts of 11 seasons with four teams.

Blue Jays Sign Edwin Encarnacion  —  The Blue Jays announced that they signed Edwin Encarnacion to a one-year, $2.5MM contract that includes a club option for $3.5MM in 2012.  The team says Encarnacion will play first base/DH, instead of third base, where he spent last season.
