Montgomery Solid Into 6th, Mariners Beat Athletics  —  OAKLAND, Calif. — Seattle rookie Mike Montgomery put together another fine start, pitching the Mariners past the Oakland Athletics 2-1 Sunday.  —  Coming off two straight shutouts, Montgomery (4-2) gave up one run and six hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Pirates Claim Travis Ishikawa  —  The Pirates have claimed Travis Ishikawa from the Giants, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes tweets.  The Bucs, in announcing the move, say that they will make a corresponding move to add Ishikawa to their 25-man roster once he joins the team.  —  The Giants designated Ishikawa for assignment on Friday.

Schoop HR in Return From Disabled List, O's Beat White Sox  —  CHICAGO — Jonathan Schoop homered in his first at-bat since coming off the disabled list and Miguel Gonzalez threw six solid innings as the Baltimore Orioles routed the Chicago White Sox 9-1 on Sunday.

Kyle Hendricks, Cubs beat Marlins to win series  —  A day after the Cubs' seven-run outburst, manager Joe Maddon seemed to lament that nights like those have been relatively rare.  —  “It was nice,” Maddon said.  “We have not been able to do that in a while.”  —  Nor were they able to repeat that Sunday.

Brewing a Streak  —  The Brewers won their eighth game in a row, sweeping three games from the Reds with a 6-1 victory.  They played well on both sides of the ball, but the offense really came to life as the scored 53 runs in the eight games while the defense allowed 27.

Cole Posts Majors-Leading 12th Win, Pirates Beat Indians  —  PITTSBURGH — Gerrit Cole overcame a rocky start for his major league-best 12th win and Andrew McCutchen's two-run double capped a five-run fifth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Cleveland Indians 5-3 Sunday.
