Tigers give rising star Granderson multiyear deal  —  DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers could have kept Curtis Granderson around for a while, retaining his talents with one-year deals until he became eligible for free agency after the 2011 season.  —  The Tigers, though, don't just wait around to make moves these days.

What we know  —  Or maybe it should be, “What we think we know.”  Or, “What we're pretty sure we know.”  —  This trade isn't officially done and might not be announced today, so don't take it as a bad sign if it gets pretty quiet.  —  It's believed that Adam Jones is taking his physical in Baltimore today.
Ed Price / NJ.com:
Yankees interested in Mench  —  The Yankees have interest in free agent Kevin Mench as a fifth outfielder, according to a person with knowledge of discussions who asked not to be named because no deal has been struck.  —  Mench, 30, would probably go to Yankees camp on a minor-league contract.

Santana's deal puts Sabathia on deck  —  You don't have to be a New Yorker or one of Johan Santana's heirs to be thrilled with the deal that sent baseball's best pitcher from Minnesota to the Mets.  You could be C.C. Sabathia or any number of other people and still be thinking, “Sweet!”

Bill James Interview  —  For those of you reading The Hardball Times unfamiliar with Bill James, let me tell you . . . . no wait, that's right.  I honestly can't conceive that a site like this has any readers who haven't heard of him.  This is a sabermetric site, and he's the biggest name in the field.

What a Game  —  Well that was one of the more enjoyable Super Bowls I can remember.  The Giants defense really shined, and that catch by Tyree in the 4th quarter had my house shaking.  Everyone had a good time and the food was a hit.  Thanks for all the great ideas.
Associated Press:

Texas Rangers  —  Baseball America's Top 10 Prospects lists are based on projections of a player's long-term worth after discussions with scouting and player-development personnel.  All players who haven't exceeded the major league rookie standards of 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched (without regard to service time) are eligible.

Another look at the Johan Santana trade  —  You bored of the Santana sweepstakes yet?  I thought so.  Every website worth its salt has penned an article or six on the biggest trade of the Hot Stove (and this Hot Stove has had a couple of mega-deals: Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis; Dan Haren; and potentially Eric Bedard).

Beer Run: How to Defeat a Sabermetrician in an Argument  —  I greatly enjoyed the recent smackdown between Rich Lederer of Baseball Analysts and Buster Olney of ESPN regarding the Hall of Fame merits of Jim Rice.  If I had to score the fight, I'd say Rich won the argument in a blowout.
