Yankees interested in Mench  —  The Yankees have interest in free agent Kevin Mench as a fifth outfielder, according to a person with knowledge of discussions who asked not to be named because no deal has been struck.  —  Mench, 30, would probably go to Yankees camp on a minor-league contract.

Baseball coach's wife arrested  —  Kim Mattingly, the wife of Los Angeles Dodgers's assistant coach Don Mattingly, was arrested over the weekend and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after she allegedly refused to leave her husband's property.

Pettitte Meets With Investigators  —  WASHINGTON — Andy Pettitte spent two and a half hours giving a deposition to Congressional investigators Monday about his former teammate Roger Clemens's challenge to the Mitchell report on performance-enhancing drugs in baseall.

Red Sox To Let Beckett Walk After 2010?  —  In Peter Gammons latest piece, he explores the trickle-down effect that the extension signed by Johan Santana will have on other pitchers.  While the article focuses on pitchers closer to free agency (ie.  C.C. Sabathia), there was one surprising quote from an unnamed Red Sox official:

What a Game  —  Well that was one of the more enjoyable Super Bowls I can remember.  The Giants defense really shined, and that catch by Tyree in the 4th quarter had my house shaking.  Everyone had a good time and the food was a hit.  Thanks for all the great ideas.
